At the same year, Electricity was the 74th most imported product in Sweden. Sweden imports Electricity primarily from: Norway ($349M), Denmark ($107M), Finland ($22.6M), Poland ($17.7M), and Germany ($17M). The fastest growing import markets in Electricity for Sweden between 2022 and 2023 were Finland ($10.7M) and Germany ($9.45M).

Sweden's top 10 imports equaled about two-thirds (66.9%) of the overall value of its products that Sweden purchased from other countries. The strongest growers among Sweden's top import categories are vehicles (up 17.7% from 2022), optical, technical or medical apparatus (up 10.1%), and imported electrical machinery and equipment (up 8.4%).

Thermal power could also help to improve the reliability of the electricity supply in southern Sweden, which could, in turn, increase the transmission of electricity from northern to southern Sweden. Temporary exemptions from environmental legislation may be required to make such capacity available to the market.

There is about 1,000 MW of thermal power mothballed in Sweden, which is roughly equivalent to one nuclear power reactor. Potentially, this capacity could be producing even in the short term if preconditions could be improved.
