Contact UsThis control strategy involves adjusting the active power output of the PV inverters based on the local voltage levels. When the voltage at the PCC exceeds a certain threshold, the PV inverter reduces its power output to prevent further voltage rise and maintain the voltage within acceptable limits.
By optimizing the reactive power (Volt/VAr) control of smart inverters for photovoltaic (PV) systems, the method not only prevents voltage violations but also ensures that the necessary curtailment of power is fairly distributed among all PV inverters.
An inverter circuit adjusts the supply power by repeating operations (1) through (5) to alternatively switch ON/OFF the High and Low sides using PWM, PFM, or other control methods. During the operation from (4) to (5), recovery current flows through the internal diode on the Low side when the High side is switched from OFF to ON.
Smart inverters associated with PV units in the system are equipped with Volt-Watt control capabilities, allowing them to curtail their output in response to over-voltage conditions. The primary objective of the control strategy is to minimize PV active power curtailment while maintaining voltage within acceptable limits across the network.
This proactive coordination means that each inverter can adjust its active power output more precisely based on both local and network-wide voltage needs, achieving a fine-tuned balance that minimizes power losses and maximizes PV hosting capacity.
The control's regulatory effect is constrained by the PV generation variability and the inherently limited curtailment scope for each inverter, which can result in uneven voltage regulation across different network segments.
