Structure of wind-solar hybrid system

The rising demand for renewable energy has recently spurred notable advancements in hybrid energy systems that utilize solar and wind power. The Hybrid Solar Wind Energy System (HSWES) integrates wind turbines with solar energy systems. This research project aims to develop effective modeling and control techniques for a grid-connected HSWES.

Enter the realm of hybrid systems, where wind and solar collide to create a revolution in renewable energy. These hybrid systems bring together the best of both worlds, leveraging the intermittent nature of wind and the consistent power of the sun to maximize energy production and reliability.

The design considerations of the stand-alone wind and solar plant apply to the hybrid plant in addition to those imposed by their colocation, such as sizing and the effect of wind turbine shading on solar energy performance. The turbines' layout, wind conditions, and operations are key to the wind plant's annual energy production (AEP).

PV-wind hybrid energy system's main components are shown in Figure 6. PV array and wind turbine generate energy for the load. Battery stores excess energy and supplies the load when the generated energy is not enough for the load.

Conversely, solar panels generate the most electricity during the day and in summer, complementing periods of lower wind speeds. By combining the two, hybrid systems offer a more consistent and balanced power generation profile, increasing the overall efficiency of renewable energy installations.
