6 Frequently Asked Questions about “Difference between outdoor power supply and RV power supply”

What is the power supply in a motorhome?

The power supply in the motorhome also sounds complicated at first, but in principle it's easy. Motorhomes or campers usually have two batteries: A starter battery and an on-board battery. They are the storage medium for the energy available in the camper. There are various ways to charge the batteries - but more on this later.

Do I need AC or DC power for my RV?

In order to do this, you need both AC and DC power. Multiple configurations create energy efficiency, system redundancies, and circuit isolation. In short, it lets you utilize both AC power coming from shore power when you're plugged in, and DC power from the RV's batteries when you are not plugged in to shore power. It's the best of both worlds.

How do RV electrical systems work?

RV electrical systems are designed to operate efficiently in all the environments you might take your rig, whether it be to a developed campground or the middle of the desert. In order to do this, you need both AC and DC power. Multiple configurations create energy efficiency, system redundancies, and circuit isolation.

Are RV batteries rechargeable?

All of our RVs come equipped with a built-in house battery, (separate from the car battery). These batteries are what powers the refrigerator, lights, control panels and the air heater. Like all batteries, they get drained with use, but they are rechargeable.

Does My RV have an inverter?

All of our RVs come with an inverter, which takes the power from the house battery and makes it usable in the outlets. You can use the inverter in the Model J and Model V to run the TV or recharge a phone or a laptop for example, but it is not enough to power the heavy draw items. (Those require an electric hook up or the generator).

What is shore power in a motorhome?

Shore power refers to the power supply for your motorhome via an external power source. This can be the power connection on a campsite or a socket in your garage at home. The big advantage of shore power is that you can conserve your on-board battery and supply the devices in the camper with power directly and independently of the battery.
