M.S.M. Nasir A photovoltaic (PV) is known as a device that can convert light energy from the sun into electricity through semiconductor cells [17,18] where the current is produced at a specific fixed voltage which is 0.6 V per cell . A typical panel consists of an array of cells.
Photovoltaic panels are the practical choice for providing the electricity demand of remote areas and the MGs due to the availability of solar energy approximately all points of the world. The produced power of photovoltaic panels is related to the level of solar irradiance, the area, and efficiency of the panel.
The PV panel is the central component of the PV power generation system, responsible for converting solar energy into DC electrical energy. In the MMC-based optimized PV grid-connected control system, the PV panel converts solar energy into DC power and feeds it into the MMC multistage converter.
When the temperature and intensity of solar radiation were under standard conditions (S = 1000W/m 2, T = 20 °C), the experimental study of solar PV cells was carried out and the voltage versus current and power versus voltage curves were obtained as shown in Fig. 9. The PV cell in Fig. 9 a is a non-constant voltage and constant current source.
By operating the panel at its maximum power point voltage, system efficiency can be maximized, leading to optimal energy harvest. Imp denotes the current output of a solar panel when operating at its maximum power point voltage. Along with Vmp, Imp determines the maximum power output of the panel under specific operating conditions.
