Contact UsAbout 50% of Kazakhstan's territory has average wind speeds suitable for energy generation (4–6 m/s) with the strongest potential in the Caspian Sea, central and northern regions.
Kazakhstan is rich in wind energy resources. Wind energy resource assessments show that windy sites (with wind speeds over 6 metres per second, m/s) available near the Caspian sea, around the Astana-Karaganda and some areas in the South.
The wind farm is to produce 100 MW of energy and save 262 thousand tons of CO 2 emissions by coal-fired power plants annually (Kazinform, 2020). Overall, large scaled wind power plants are planned to be constructed on ten sites selected by the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
(environmental objective) is “to reduce Kazakhstan's greenhouse gas emissions by facilitating the sustainable development of the wind energy market in Kazakhstan. The project's (development) objective is “to remove the existing barriers to the grid-connected wind energy production in Kazakhstan”. 11.
One of Kazakhstan's power companies, Samruk-Energy JSC, was recently awarded a $94 million loan from the Eurasian Development Bank to build Kazakhstan's largest wind farm. The project will produce 172 million kilowatt/hours of electrical energy per year, save more than 60 million tons of coal, and reduce emissions of greenhouse gases.
Moreover, the results of the “Kazakhstan – Initiative of Wind Power Market Development” project have shown that the average wind speed of 5-6 m/s suitable for the successful implementation of wind power plant projects is present across the country (Antonov, 2014).
