Mobile battery energy storage systems (MBESSs) represent an emerging application within the broader framework of battery energy storage systems (BESSs). By transporting lightweight BESSs, energy backup support can be provided to different geographical locations.
Among them, networked microgrids (MGs) are widely used as an effective strategy for load restoration and cost minimization during extreme events, while mobile power sources (MPSs) (e.g. MESSs) have attracted research interest due to their mobility and flexibility compared to static resources .
It is commonly acknowledged that grid-forming (GFM) converter-based energy storage systems (ESSs) enjoy the merits of flexibility and effectiveness in enhancing system strength, but how to simultaneously consider the economic efficiency and system-strength support capability in the planning stage remains unexplored.
Networked microgrids are considered an effective way to enhance resilience of localized energy systems. Recently, research efforts across the world have been focusing on the optimal sizing and pre-positioning problems of distributed energy resources for networked microgrids.
