The capacitive uninterruptible power supplies are suitable as base devices for critical applications and high system availability, such as interconnected industrial systems in the automotive sector or in intralogistics, as well as for high-current applications with short buffer times.
In this chapter, an overload and short-circuit protection method is proposed for voltage-source inverter-based uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system. In order to achieve high reliability and availability of the UPS, a short-circuit and overload protection scheme is necessary.
In this paper, a Voltage Solvability Indicator (VSI) has been proposed for short-term voltage stability studies. The main conclusions are as follows: (1) VSI can be used to characterize the singular surface of power system DAE model, and to accurately describe the Voltage Instability Regions (VIR s).
(2) VSI inside the Voltage Stability Regions (VSR s) has the capability of quantitatively assessing short-term voltage stability. (3) Both theoretical analysis and case studies consistently suggest that as the penetration of constant power injections increases, power systems become more vulnerable to voltage collapse.
