The economic hurdle of small-scale systems highlights the importance of developing cost-effective thermal insulation solutions that allow the storage structure to be built of low-cost materials and, more importantly, to reduce the space required by large storage systems incorporated inside buildings. 3. Whenever possible, applying thermal insulation on the outside wall of the storage is usually the simplest and most cost-effective option. One of the main advantages of this arrangement is that the thermal insulation is neither subject to the pressure of the storage, nor directly exposed to the hot water reservoir.
