Contact UsBattery temperature refers to the internal temperature of a battery while it is in use, charging, or even when stand by. The temperature of a battery can significantly impact its performance, internal resistance, and safety. Understanding how temperature influences your battery can help design better battery and keep your products safe.
Freezing temperatures (below 0°C or 32°F) can freeze the battery's electrolyte, causing permanent damage. High temperatures (above 60°C or 140°F) can speed up battery aging and pose safety risks. Extreme temperatures shorten battery lifespan and reduce efficiency.
SOME FACTS ON THE SUBJECT OF AMBIENT OR OPERATING TEMPERATURE. As a general rule, Banner recommends an operating temperature of max. -40 to +55 degrees Celsius; optimum storage conditions are approx. +25 to +27 degrees Celsius. These criteria apply to all lead-acid batteries and are valid for conventional, EFB, AGM and GEL technology.
The standard rating for batteries is at room temperature 25 degrees C (about 77 F). At approximately -22 degrees F (-30 C), battery Ah capacity drops to 50%. At freezing, capacity is reduced by 20%. Capacity is increased at higher temperatures – at 122 degrees F, battery capacity would be about 12% higher.
High temperature charging may cause the battery to overheat, leading to thermal runaway and safety risks. It is recommended to charge lithium batteries within a suitable temperature range of 0 ° C to 45 ° C (32 ° F to 113 ° F) to ensure optimal performance and safety. *The lithium battery maximum temperature shall not exceed 45 ℃ (113 ℉)
Low temperature performance impact: The performance of lithium batteries will be affected in low temperature environments below 15 degrees Celsius (59 degrees Fahrenheit). The chemical reaction rate inside the battery slows down, resulting in a decrease in output power. This may shorten the lifespan of the battery and reduce its capacity.
